5 Reconstruction Options After Removing Breast Implants

Many women who undergo breast augmentation will eventually consider having their breast implants removed, either because their implants need replacement or because their preferences have changed. Knowing which procedures you can use to reconstruct your breasts post-explant is a crucial part of achieving the cosmetic results you want, as is choosing a skilled, experienced breast surgeon.

5 Ways to Enhance Your Breasts After Implant Removal

To gain a general understanding of the various breast reconstruction options we offer at our clinic in Miami, consult the guide below.

1. Replace Your Implants

Many of our patients decide to undergo breast implant removal because their old implants have worn out or they would prefer a smaller size. Having new implants placed into your existing breast “pockets” will provide support for your breast tissue and prevent sagging, ensuring a round, lifted look.

2. Have Combined Breast Lift/Augmentation Surgery

If you plan to have your current implants replaced with a much smaller size, Dr. Gerth may recommend having combined breast lift/augmentation surgery. This procedure will remove excess skin from your breasts, shaping them to fit your new implants properly.

3. Get a Breast Lift

Some women choose to have their implants removed because they want to return to their original breast size. To accomplish this goal, breast lift surgery (without augmentation) is usually necessary. Without a breast lift, your breasts may look deflated or saggy after you have your implants removed. Breast lift surgery will restore your original breast shape by removing excess skin and stretch marks, altering the position of your nipples, and reshaping your areolas, as necessary.

4. Try Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Fat transfer breast augmentation, or lipoaugmentation, is an innovative procedure that involves harvesting fat from a donor site (usually the belly or thighs), processing it, and injecting it into the breasts. This approach to breast augmentation can increase your breast size by about one cup size, without the use of silicone or saline implants. However, while lipoaugmentation produces very natural-looking results on suitable candidates, it cannot replace large implants. Breast implants are still the most reliable way to achieve a substantial increase in breast volume.

5. Consider BodyTite

In some cases, BodyTite can replace surgery to lift the breasts. BodyTite is a radiofrequency procedure that stimulates natural tissue contraction through the generation of heat. When applied to the chest, this procedure can safely and painlessly tighten loose skin for a subtly lifted look.
