Many surgeons hold hospital privileges at local hospitals, so the facility fee is applied toward any costs associated with using those facilities, including payment to hospital nursing staff and other miscellaneous expenses.
Surgeons who operate their own on-site ambulatory surgical centers can charge a slightly lower facility fee, as surgeries are performed in-house. This fee will also fluctuate based on the complexity of the procedure. For example, some minimally invasive procedures can be performed in the office and do not require a hospital stay.
Anesthesia Fees
The anesthesia fee is the cost of administering either general or local anesthesia. This also contributes to the anesthesiologist’s fees. Procedures that only require a local anesthetic are generally less expensive than those that require general anesthesia.
